I painted this image after reading many books about Frida Khalo. She is a powerful and intensely passionate Mexican artist who died in 1954. Her work and her life continue to touch me deeply. The two women (angels at the gateway) are wearing Mexican shawls and Frida’s birds on their brow. Beneath the outstretched wings of the Spiritbird is an opening into the Light, where we pass from this world into the next.
